Support Norfolk HoopLady 11.8.08!

In a story that’s spreading outrage & compassion fast throughout the hooping community thanks in large part to Philo Hagen of hooping.org, Pamela Brown, a.k.a. The Hula Hoop Lady of Granby Street will have a hoopjam take place in honor of her and other folks who’ve suffered from traumatic brain damage this coming Saturday the 8th at 2pm on Granby Street and Cromwell Parkway in Norfolk, VA. Pamela suffered brain damage in an accident as a teenager. A an avid hooper (and according to many local residents) a welcomed fixture of Granby Street, Pamela was tasered multiple times by police following a noise complaint, and this appalling video of the incident has been released which displays her repeated pleas to tell the officer that her ‘medic alert card is in her back pocket.’ Read the full story here where you can find out how to make a donation to the Brain Injury Association of America that serves folks like Pamela, and come show your support of one truly dedicated hooper this weekend in Norfolk if you are within traveling distance and able!

I just read the story on hooping.org and saw your photos with Pam. What an inspiration you are! To drive 200+ miles to host this event in her honor is nothing short of spectacular. I’m sure I speak for all of the other hoopers who couldn’t be there last weekend when I say: Thank you for setting a great example and taking the initiative to make a difference.

I was appaled by the video of the police officer’s shocking behavior towards Pam and it’s nice to know that there are people out there like you who stepped up and did something about it. You rock.

Thank you for your kind words of support & acknowledgement, Abby! I was, like so many others, completely shocked at the story and video, that it made the trip that much more important to make. It was a great pleasure to meet & hoop with Pam, & have the opportunity to witness her incredibly strong sense of spirit and self. Best wishes & Peace your way~ noelle
